NEW! Free, Asynchronous Professional Development

Would you like to learn how to use congressional inquiries to bring U.S. history and civics to life for your students? What about an overview of the Inquiry Design Model? With videos produced in collaboration with Detroit PBS, we invite you to participate in our brand-new, FREE, asynchronous professional development course.

Designed For

  • Educators who seek to deepen their knowledge of inquiry and the C3 Framework

  • Instructional leaders who are interested in sampling what a free Learning by Hearings PD would look like 

Learning Outcomes

  • Develop an understanding of the Inquiry Design Model
  • Teach confidently about legislative oversight 
  • Engage students with hands-on activities in social studies 
  • Upon completion, participants will receive a certificate and (if in Michigan) 2 SCECHs

Free, In-Person Professional Development for Educators

Learning by Hearings provides free professional development for high school and middle school social studies educators in Michigan. All of our PDs are run by former Michigan social studies teachers. Each of our PDs are tailored to your district’s calendar and goals. All include an introduction to the Levin Center, an overview of congressional oversight, and a deep dive into one or more of our materials. We strongly believe in the power of experiential PD; as former teachers, we know that professional development is most valuable when teachers are given time to explore resources and see them used in real time.
