We are pleased to share that our 2024/25 Oversight Fellow, Jason Juffras, has completed an important new paper examining how state legislatures organize themselves to carry out oversight.
Drawing on case studies from six states, Jason looks at legislative oversight as a system, exploring how lawmakers, committees, audit and fiscal offices, and leadership interact in practice. His work highlights both the strength of existing oversight tools and the structural challenges that can limit their impact when those tools operate in silos.
Jason completed this research as part of the Levin Center’s Elise J. Bean Oversight Fellowship, and we’re grateful for the rigor, thoughtfulness, and practical insight he brought to the project.
